Tacoma Police Records Requests

The Tacoma Police Department runs patrol, traffic, and investigation work inside city limits. The city runs a central Public Records Office for all city records, including police. The preferred intake method is the Tacoma Public Records Request Center, an online portal. You can also send a mail request, email, fax, or walk in. Hours run 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. James Kauffman is the city Public Disclosure Officer. The five business day clock runs under RCW 42.56.520. Big jobs ship in installments.

Record types include arrest reports, incident reports, CAD logs, traffic citations, 911 audio, body camera video, and in-car camera video. Body camera review happens only at the TPU building. South Sound 911 is the records coordinator for Tacoma Police dispatch and CAD logs. Criminal history checks go through the Washington State Patrol.

Pierce County Jail Roster

Adults booked in Tacoma land at the Pierce County Jail at 910 Tacoma Avenue South, Tacoma, WA 98402. A new jail sits at 701 Nollmeyer Lane. The jail roster is public under RCW 70.48.100. That law says the jail register must list the name, date, hour, and cause of each booking. Booking photos of Tacoma arrestees live in sheriff files and fall under RCW 10.97 for non-conviction data. Tacoma Municipal Court

To get a court record, fill out the Tacoma Municipal Court Records Request Form and send it in by mail or email. Give the name, date of birth, case number, and date of incident. The first ten photocopy pages are free, then fifty cents per page. Certified copies cost five dollars per document. Audio CDs cost ten dollars. Virtual hearings run Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. with judicial approval.

Tacoma Public Records Fees

The city fee schedule took effect August 1, 2025. In-person inspection at the records office is free. Printed paper copies cost fifteen cents per page. Scanned copies cost ten cents per page. Electronic files or attachments cost five cents per four files. Electronic transfer is ten cents per gigabyte. Body camera video runs forty-nine cents per minute.

Large jobs need a ten percent deposit. Payment is by card online, by check to the City Treasurer, or by cash in person. A request abandons if the requester does not inspect, respond, or pay within thirty days. Under RCW 10.97.130, no site can charge a fee to take down a Tacoma mugshot.
